Meaningless Transactions 2026

I am fascinated by money as an energy exactly equivalent in value to kindness, earnestness or brushing your teeth.

There is a huge fuss made over money which is especially incredible in this country because of its actual worthlessness. The value only inferred by people’s belief.

Also there is STILL the idea that it is something ‘unclean’ or lowly in reference to money.

The performance – which few got and even fewer chose to get – offered nothing. Money was sold at Bodmin Market on a stall for its exact equivalent. Nothing was on offer. Nothing was for sale. It was a meaningless transaction. Same as when I left a £1000 on the floor at previous exhibitions and it was stolen. Walking in the woods weeks later with my son, walking on crisp brown and gold autumn leaves, like money, brought home how meaningless it was.
